Printed map. "By John Ainslie Land Surveyor. Printed & Sold by the Author Hanover Street Newtown Edinburgh and William Faden Geographer to the King Charing Cross London." Visual scale [16 cm = 25 miles]. "To the right Honble. Henry Dundas Treasurer of the Navy &c &c. This Map is most humbly inscribed by his most obedient Servt. John Ainslie." Insets: "Heights of the Most Remarkable Hills From the Level of the Sea. [table]" They lye north north east from Caithness about 100 miles". Note “Publish’d according to Act of Parliament...” appears three times on McMaster’s copy (once in cartouche and twice in the lower margin of the south sheet) indicating that this was probably not the original configuration of sheets. Two distance tables included: Small table of distances between Edinburgh and London; larger table of distances between places from Aberbrothwick to London. “Price one Guinea in Sheets or £1„ 11„ 6. Mounted upon Linen with Rollers”. Printed annotations provide information about the catch of cod and ling. Acquired as part of the Cholmondely Collection.
